What SAP basically is?
Link:SAP AG - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- SAP stands for System Application and Products in data procession.
- It is a software that will take all the messed up manual data from hand written registers and excel files etc into its system and stores and processes on it, thus increasing the efficiency of a Running Business.
- Any past data, like how much business is been done with a particular supplier can easily and very quickly be seen in SAP system.
- It can convert slowly moving unreliable processes of a firm into fast, efficient and productive workflows.
- It can even modulate all current working processes of a company and plan best methods for future.
- It works on real time basis, so like production engineer can check from its system the stock available for use i.e. unrestricted stock ,stock in quality and stock blocked.
- The software do not have any brains of its own.. though it has some procedures for calculation and stuff , but it will only work on data we feed and the configuration we do.
- So if the system fails to plan or fail to perform a procedure then there are some errors in the data we provided or the implementation we did.
- So on a concluding note I would say SAP system is just a advance memory system which can calculate and perform, day-to-day business function, complex business future scenarios, with great efficiency.
- You can always read the history of SAP AG (company), How it was started, who started , what is SAP R/1 , R/2 and R/3 in detail on wikipedia.

What is an ERP ?
- ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning.
- Its name only suggest what it does basically , it collects all the Resources of a Enterprise and Plans their optimum use.
- If we take an example of Material Management (MM) module, under this module SAP system under take each and every single task of handling (management) of materials right from where its Requirement is generated, up-till the payment (invoice) for that material is done.
- So ERP is a system that integrates all the parts of your firm like Sales , Purchase, Human resource, Inventory, Production, etc etc.. Thus an ERP once installed increases the efficiency of a firm, exponentially.
- So ERP software evaluates , calculates and plan all the business processes removing the manual errors which, as the matter of fact, will save a huge amount of TIME & MONEY.!!
- Some examples of ERP systems are: SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, etc etc.. tons of others.
Conclusion:
- I would say now next time when YOU hear People talking about SAP and/or ERP,you, instead of just simply nodding, will "actually" understand what are they talking about. ;)
